RANGER<\/center>&#8220;HOME ON THE RANGE(R)&#8221;<br \/>\n(Sequel to &#8220;Gloomy Sunday&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>Oh we got a home,<br \/>\nWhere the Iguanas roam,<br \/>\nWhere mosquitoes and Tarantulas play,<br \/>\nWhere never is heard<br \/>\nAn encouraging word,<br \/>\nAnd the dust never settles all day,<\/p>\n<p>CHORUS:<\/p>\n<p>Home, home on the Ranger,<br \/>\nWe&#8217;re stuck in Guantanamo Bay,<br \/>\nAnd never is heard,<br \/>\nThat most welcome word,<br \/>\nThat we&#8217;re leaving for Norfolk next day.<\/p>\n<p>How often at night<br \/>\nBy a feeble flashlight,<br \/>\nWith no help from the glittering stars,<br \/>\nHave we stood there askance,<br \/>\nWith the bugs in our pants,<br \/>\nOh there&#8217;s no one with troubles like ours.<\/p>\n<p>Oh we&#8217;re in a land,<br \/>\nWhere the rocks, dust, and sand.<br \/>\nChoke engines and pilots and things,<br \/>\nAnd for over a week.<br \/>\nThere&#8217;s been no <a href=\"https:\/\/s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/564x\/9b\/fb\/1c\/9bfb1c0a98e09e20a34a71dbd9487dcd.jpg\">campho-phenique<\/a>,<br \/>\nTo put on our mosquito stings,<\/p>\n<p>We would gladly exchange,<br \/>\nOur roost on the range,<br \/>\nFor most any civilized spot,<br \/>\nBut since we must roam,<br \/>\nWhy can&#8217;t we go home,<br \/>\nGuantanamo Bay&#8217;s too darn hot.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This &#8220;filk&#8221; may have been written sometime between January and April, 1939 when the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Ranger (CV-4) was at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Although the author was not attributed on the typewritten paper I have, it was possibly written by my father George William Palmer.
